New 100% Post Consumer Recycled Packaging
A Smarter, More Sustainable Future with 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Packaging
Flax4Life is Proud to Introduce 100% PCR Packaging — a Step Forward for People and the Planet.
At Flax4Life, our mission has always been simple: to craft delicious, nutritious, allergy-friendly baked goods that are better for you and better for the planet. Today, we’re proud to announce another big step toward that goal, our transition to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) packaging
Why We Made the Change
When our former compostable packaging supplier went out of business earlier this year, we saw it as an opportunity, not just to replace our packaging, but to completely rethink it. While compostable packaging is often marketed as eco-friendly, the reality is that it doesn’t always live up to its promise.
Most compostable materials require specialized industrial composting facilities to break down properly, yet less than 10% of U.S. communities have access to these systems. That means the majority of compostable packaging still ends up in landfills, where it can take years to decompose and even release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By contrast, our new 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET packaging works within existing recycling systems, reducing waste, cutting the need for new plastic, and creating a truly closed-loop, circular solution that is a smarter, more realistic step forward for the environment we all share. That’s why we made the switch to the 100% PCR PET containers, packaging that actually works with today’s recycling infrastructure.
How It Works: The Closed Loop System
-
🔁 Reprocessed & Reused – Collected containers are cleaned, reprocessed, and repurposed into new food-safe packaging, allowing them to be used again and again, thereby reducing landfill waste and our carbon footprint.
-
🏡 Community Drop-Off – In addition to hundreds of collection sites across the United States, Flax4Life’s Community Co-op in Bellingham, WA, now serves as a collection point for used containers, so our customers can play an active role in recycling.
-
♻️ Made from 100% Recycled Plastic – Every container begins its life as post-consumer recycled PET from existing waste streams.
-
🌎 Fully Recyclable Nationwide – Containers are accepted in standard PET (#1) recycling programs across the U.S.
A Commitment to a Healthier Future
“This shift represents more than a packaging upgrade, it’s a commitment to a better future,” says Kasondra Shippen, Founder & CEO of Flax4Life. “We’re proud to offer a packaging solution that’s smarter, scalable, and gives our customers a real way to make an impact.”
By choosing products in 100% recycled packaging, every Flax4Life customer helps reduce plastic waste, cut carbon emissions, and keep our planet healthy for future generations.
